If you are sourcing hydrogen water products, you will see two acronyms on almost every specification sheet: PEM and SPE. They are often printed together as one phrase, which leaves buyers unsure whether they are choosing between two technologies or reading one. This guide explains what the terms refer to on this manufacturer's products and what a buyer should verify before ordering.

01 What PEM and SPE Refer To
PEM stands for proton exchange membrane. SPE stands for solid polymer electrolyte. Both describe an electrolysis approach in which a polymer membrane sits between the electrodes and separates the gases produced, rather than letting them mix in a liquid electrolyte.

First, the rated purity on inhalation machines, expressed as a percentage. Second, the hydrogen to oxygen ratio. Third, the rated hydrogen content in PPB on water products. Fourth, the working modes, which on this range are 5 / 10 minutes on the Q15 and Q16, 6 / 12 minutes on the Q17, and 10 / 20 minutes on the W10-2 pitcher. Confirm the working mode for the exact model you order, since specification sheets can vary between model variants.

04 Capacity, Battery and the Rest of the Spec Sheet
The technology line is only one line. The rest of the sheet decides whether the product suits the market you are selling into. On this range the Q15 series is 230 ml with a 2200 mAh battery, the Q16 is 300 ml with 2200 mAh, the Q17 is 400 ml with 4000 mAh, and the W10 models run from 1000 ml at 4000 mAh up to 2000 ml at 9000 mAh.

Match the model to the buyer rather than the acronym to the marketing. A portable 230 ml cup and a 2000 ml countertop pitcher serve different customers even though both are listed with SPE/PEM separation.
